No Medals for U.S. Cyclists Despite Strong Individual Performances on Day One of Cycling World Championships

AIGLE, Switzerland - Despite a few personal bests during the Individual Pursuit qualification runs at the 2006 IPC Cycling World Championships, the U.S. was unable to get one athlete into the finals Monday because the competition also came out very strong.

Allison Jones (LC3, Colorado Springs, Colo.), Greta Neimanas (LC1, Chicago, Ill.) and Sam Kavanagh (LC2, Bozeman, Mont.) all set new personal standards on the fast track at the World Cycling Center in Aigle, Switzerland, but were unable to crack the top-four in their respective classes, which would have allowed them to race for a spot on the podium.

Paul Martin (Boulder, Colo.) was the closest to qualifying for Monday evening's final, finishing fifth in the men's LC2 qualifier, two seconds out of fourth.

"Everyone’s performance was very good, even though the results weren’t quite what we expected," said U.S. Paralympics Cycling Head Coach Craig Griffin.
