2006 U.S. Paralympics Cycling Championships Begin Wednesday

The 2006 U.S. Paralympics Cycling National Championships will begin Wednesday, July 12, with the road course competitions at Laurel Hill State Park in Somerset County, Pa., where the athletes will face a challenging, technical course that promises to test the riders in every discipline.
The following athletes will compete in Tuesday's events:
Monica Bascio (Evergreen, Colo.) Barb Buchan (Bend, Ore.) James Davidson (Shelby Township, Mich.) Suzanne Elbon (Athens, Ga.) Mike Farrell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) John Fite (Pittsburgh, Pa.) Bruce Gordon (South Bend, Ind.) Ronnie Irvine (Ephrata, Pa.) Greg LaKomski (Elgin, Texas) Alexander Mask (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) Greta Neimanas (Chicago, Ill.) Oscar Sanchez (San Diego, Calif.) Josh Sundquist (Bridgewater, Va.) Karissa Whitsell (Springfield, Ore.)/Katie Compton (pilot, Colorado Springs, Colo.) Anthony Zahn (Riverside, Calif.)
After a travel day Thursday, the track competitions will commence Friday and Saturday, July 14-15, at the Lehigh Valley Velodrome in Trexlertown, Pa. A full list of competitors will be released soon.
Competitions on the roads consist of time trials and road races. In time trials, athletes start individually in staggered intervals, racing mostly against themselves and the clock. Road races consist of mass starts, and distances range from 5 km to 65 km in length.
