Allison Jones won both the 1 km and 3 km Time Trials at the 2005 U.S. Paralympic Track Cycling National Championships, Oct. 7-8 at the ADT Center in Carson, Calif., making her the only cyclist to win two titles at the event.
Jones beat out Karissa Whitsell by slim margins in both races to take home the championships. In the 1 km race, Jones raced to 105.28 percent of her Elite Standard, while Whitsell raced to 106.78 percent of her's. The 3 km race was closer still, with Jones racing to 105.63 percent of her standard, while Whitsell finished at 106.35 percent.
In the Men's 1 km Time Trial, Dan Nicholson raced to 107.10 percent of his Elite Standard to win the National Championship, with Scott Gadberry finishing second (110.04 percent).
The Men's 3km/4km Time Trial saw Dory Selinger win the national title by finishing his 4 km race at 104.84 percent of his Elite Standard. Paralympic medalist Ron Williams finished second, completing 4 km at 106.21 percent.
Each rider’s time was compared against the U.S. Paralympics elite standard for that event in his/her Paralympic racing classification. The rider with the best comparison (percentage below or above) to the elite standard was declared the National Champion.
