Fabry finishes qualifying round in record-breaking fashion

Jeff Fabry (Tulare, Calif.) blew away the Men's W1 Recurve field with a world record-breaking performance in the qualifying round of the 2005 International Paralympic Committee Archery World Championships in Massa-Carrara, Italy on Wednesday.
Fabry finished the four-distance, 144-shot round with a score of 1,378 points, setting a new world record in the W1 class. He also set world records at all four individual distances, including a 357-point round from 30 meters. Fabry drilled 90 shots for 10 points, including 40 bull's-eyes.
The second half of the qualifying round also saw three other Americans make strong pushes up the standings in their respective categories.
T.J. Pemberton (Moore, Okla.) made a charge into the top-10 in the Men's Open Compound category after a strong finish, where he scored 353 points from 30 meters to bring his qualifying total to 1,315. Joseph Bailey (Flushing, Mich., 1,301 points) climbed 10 spots to 15th place after a 355-point round from the same distance.
Kevin Stone (Cookeville, Tenn.) moved into 10th place in the Men's W2 Recurve category after finishing 13th on Tuesday. He shot rounds of 302 and 333 points from 50 and 30 meters, respectively, and finished the qualifying round with a total of 1,182.
Russell Wolfe finished the qualifying round in the Men's Open Compound in 35th place with 1,246 points.
