2008 U.S. Paralympic Trials -Track & Field to take Place at Arizona State University

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The road to Beijing will wind through Tempe, Arizona for the 2008 U.S. Paralympic Trials – Track & Field. The competition, which will run June 12-15 at Arizona State University, is the sole qualifying event in track & field for the 2008 Paralympic Games. Arizona Disabled Sports and the City of Mesa Parks, Recreation and Commercial Facilities will act as the local organizing committee.

On Thursday, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) proudly announced the launch of its Paralympian Ambassador Program. The aim of the program is to create a roster of top past and present Paralympic athletes to act as ambassadors of the Paralympic Movement. These athletes will serve as role models for young people, with and without disabilities, and act as awareness and communication tools for the Paralympic Movement to enhance and increase its public profile.

Team USA is headed to its first-ever playoff game at the 2008 World Wheelchair Championship. Augusto Perez (East Syracuse, N.Y.) and teammates James Pierce (North Syracuse, N.Y.), James Joseph (New Hartford, N.Y) and Jacqueline Kapinowski (Point Pleasant, N.J.) defeated Italy's Andrea Tabanelli rink, 6-4, in Thursday morning's tiebreaker game to earn the final playoff spot and the No. 4 seed.
