The Paralympic movement is powerful. It is personal. It is emotional.
The Paralympic movement is not only the Americans that represent us at the Games. It is the 18-year old in Iowa who lost his legs in a car accident. The 24-year old from Texas paralyzed in war. It is the six-year old that is now legally blind due to a brain tumor.
It is persons with physical disabilities who are role models in their communities and to millions of other Americans—not only as athletes, but also as employees, educators, mentors and leaders.
It is not just about winning medals. It is about changing lives and impacting families.
Our goal is to increase the number of persons with physical disabilities that participate in daily physical activity.
Our focus is to develop Paralympic community-based programs in 250 U.S. cities by 2012.
The Paralympic Heroes Fund, will provide the resources to endow the training and technical assistance to create “Paralympic Heroes” young and old, that are active, healthy and leaders in their communities.
