Personal Profile: At 16, Cash was one of the youngest players on the U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team and served as the squad’s No. 2 goalie behind Manny Guerra. He saw limited action in Torino, playing the final six minutes of the U.S. victory over Sweden and stopping the two shots he faced. If Guerra retires from the sport, Cash could be a strong candidate to be the man between the pipes for the U.S. in 2010.
As an infant, Cash was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his right knee area and underwent amputation surgery at the age of three. Missing part of his leg never deterred him from getting involved in hockey, either on blades or on wheels. He also serves as a goalie for his Ritenour High School roller hockey squad. He learned about the Paralympics through Mike Dowling, the coach of Cash’s former junior hockey club, the Disabled Athlete Sports Association’s (DASA) St. Louis Junior Blues. Cash currently plays with the River City Rage sled hockey club, and also enjoys playing tennis in his free time. He is currently a junior at Ritenour.
