SQUASH: Men Take Two, Face Ecuador Friday Morning

With a pair of victories on Thursday, the USA men’s squad team will wrap up Pan American Games squash competition Friday with two matches in the consolation bracket. The Americans will face Ecuador tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. at Body Shop Arroyo Hondo, then will conclude play against either Argentina or Paraguay at 4 p.m.In Thursday morning pool play, the USA handled El Salvador 3-0, with the top two seeds claiming three-game victories. USA No. 1 Damian Walker (Stamford, Conn.) claimed a 9-1, 9-2, 9-8 decision over Carlos Schonenberg, while No. 2 Preston Quick (Denver, Colo.), an individual bronze medallist earlier in the week, posted a 9-7, 9-2, 9-2 win over Ricardo Weisskopf. No. 3 Tim Wyantt (Cincinnati, Ohio) got a bit more of a workout against Santiago Imberton, dropping the first game before coming out on top 8-10, 9-4, 9-3, 9-1. In the evening match, the USA won handily over a Paraguay squad that was without its No. 1 player, Casarino Esteban, due to injury. The Paraguayans moved their players up a slot, so Walker faced their No. 2, Andre L’Hereux, whom he defeated 9-6, 9-1, 9-2, trailing only once in the three games. In the second game, Quick trailed only three times, twice in the third game, before downing Adrian Alvarenga 9-3, 9-4, 9-4.
