USA SOFTBALL - Team USA Advances to Finals of Qualifier with 9-2 Win over Canada

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala – The USA National team advanced to the finals of the Pan Am/World qualifier with a 9-2 win over Canada yesterday in Guatemala City, Guatemala. This proved to be a challenging match up for team USA with the team posting 11 hits, leaving 10 on base and five errors.

Jamie Southern (Clovis, Calif.) pitched five innings giving up two hits with Alicia Hollowell (Suisun, Calif.) closing the game, giving up on hit. The team had a qualifier-high five errors, with three in one inning, leading all Canadian runs to be unearned.

Jessica Mendoza (Camarillo, Calif.) was 2-4 with two RBI. Crystl Bustos (Canyon County, Calif.) was a 2-3 with two RBI with another monster homerun, her sixth homerun in seven games. Stacey Nuveman (La Verne, Calif.) hit at a 2-3 clip with two RBI and Lovie Jung (Fountain Valley, Calif.) was 2-3 with an RBI.

Canada vs. Venezuela or Cuba will play at 5 p.m. with the winner scheduled to take on the U.S. at 7 p.m. for the finals of the qualifier.
