DIVING: U.S. Divers Win Junior Pan Am Diving Team Title

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.. – U.S. divers, led by 10-year-old Kassidy Cook (The Woodlands, Texas), claimed the team title at the 2005 Pan American Diving Championships. Team USA finished with 611 points, followed by Canada with 556 points. Mexico finished third with 489 points.

Cook claimed the gold in the girls 11 and under platform event for a sweep of the gold medals in her age group. She won gold on 1-meter springboard and 3-meter springboard on Saturday. Canada’s Molly Schupbach took the silver on platform and nine-year-old Wallace Layland (Orlando, Fla.) of the U.S. captured the bronze.

Team USA’s Kristian Ipsen (Clayton, Calif.) claimed his second gold of the meet by winning the boys 12-13 platform event with a score of 311.10. Mexico’s Galo Marmolejo earned the silver with 285.80 points and Colombia’s Sebastian Villa, the gold medalist on 3-meter, took the bronze with 278.10 points.

In the boys 16-18 platform, Landon Marzullo (Columbus, Ohio) of the U.S. won the gold by seven points over runner up Johny Vera of Colombia. Marzullo finished with 518.55 points to Vera’s 511.60 points. Victor Ortega, also of Colombia, took the bronze with 474.30 points.
