Johnson Also 8th In 500 Meter Finals At Sprint World ChampionshipsFor IMMEDIATE Release 34th ICF Flatwater Racing World Championships August 28, 2005 Zagreb, Croatia One day after finishing in 8th place in the women’s K-1 1000 meter A Final at the Sprint World Championships, Carrie Johnson (San Diego, Calif.) was at it again. Johnson also finished 8th in the 500 meter A Final on Sunday. It was another excellent race and Johnson showed the world she is one of the best sprint paddlers alive. At the World Championships, there are both an A Final and a B Final. The A Final is the top nine boats and decides the three podium positions plus the ranking of boats four through nine. The B Final takes the next nine boats from their respective semi-finals and determines the ranking of boats 10 through 18. Rami Zur (Berkeley, Calif.) won the men’s K-1 200 meter B final on Sunday afternoon, sprinting past 8 other great international paddlers to essentially finish 10th overall in the 200 meter distance. Zur had an earlier B final on Sunday morning in the K-1 500 meters where he finished fifth. The only other US boat in action on the final day of competition was the men’s K-4 500 meters team of Morgan House (Gainesville, Ga.), Brandon Woods (Kaneohe, Hawaii), Danny Krawczyk (Bayside, N.Y.) and Ty Hagler (Gainesville, Ga.). This team raced in the B Final and finished 8th.
