SYNCHRO: U.S. Earns Two Fourth Place Spots

Montreal, Can.-- The United States earned two fourth place spots at the FINA World Championships this weekend in Montreal. The duet, Sara Lowe and Stephanie Nesbitt, as well as the World Championship Team both placed fourth with scores of 94.584 and 95.666 respectively.Lowe and Nesbitt, 2004 Olympians and bronze medalists, reunited to swim in the duet competition at the 2005 FINA World Championships, and placed fourth with Canada on their heels, Friday. Russia lead the way with Spain and Japan following in second and third place. "Our performance went well," said Lowe, stating that the rain delay didn't affect their performance. "It was our last performance together of the season so we wanted to go out with a good one.” In Saturday's team competition, The United States matched their fourth place preliminary finish, and swam to fourth in the finals. Russia won the gold with a score of 99.334. Japan finished second with a score of 97.834, and Spain rounded out the top three with a score of 97.750. The U.S. earned 95.666 points beating Canada's score of 94.917. "We feel really good. We felt calm and confident. We love performing our routine because it’s not like a routine; it’s like a story. It’s like art,” said team member, Becky Kim. The XI FINA World Championships ended Saturday night, and the U.S. will walk away with a fifth place solo finish (Christina Jones), a fourth place duet finish (Lowe and Nesbitt), and a fourth place team finish.
