SPEEDSKATING: Hedrick Sets New World Record

CLEVELAND, Ohio (March 17, 2005) – At the 2005 Oval Finale event, Chad Hedrick (Spring, Tex.) set a new world record in the 3000-meters.

Hedrick set the new record on March 11 at the Olympic Oval in Calgary, Canada. Hedrick’s time was 3:39.02. Gianni Romme of the Netherlands held the previous record of 3:42.75, which was set in Calgary in 2000.

Only one week earlier on March 3, Hedrick defended his 5000-meters World title in Inzell, Germany.

Hedrick's new world record is considered unofficial until certified by the International Skating Union.
