Beaverton High Earns Overall, Boy’s National Title
Defending Champ Catlin Gabel Wins Women’s Title
St. Louis, Mo. – When the dust finally settled at the 2005 18th Wilson USA Racquetball National High School Championships presented by Penn Racquet Sports, Beaverton High (Beaverton, Ore.) had earned their fourth national overall team title. In addition to the overall team title, Beaverton also took first place in the boy’s team competition. Last year’s overall team champions, Catlin Gabel (Portland, Ore.), were able to secure the girl’s team title.
Beaverton had previously won overall team titles in 1996, ’97, and ’99. The win this year moves them into a tie with Lafayette H.S. (St. Louis, Mo.) for the most overall team titles. Beaverton accumulated 1961.5 points to finish ahead of last year’s champion Catlin Gabel who scored 1745 points. Three time overall team champion Kirkwood High (Kirkwood, Mo.) finished third with 1305.5 points.
Beaverton also finished at the top of the boy’s team standings with 973 points over hometown favorites St. Louis University (St. Louis, Mo.) who earned 907 points. Watertown High (Watertown, S.D.) scored 889 points to finish third.
Although they fell short of the overall team title, Catlin Gabel scored big in the girl’s team competition with 973.5 points to finish first. Two St. Louis area schools, St. Joseph’s Academy (842) and Nerinx Hall (781.5) finished second and third, respectively.
