In late November, Lysacek finished second at the NHK Trophy in Osaka, Japan, and secured his spot at the Grand Prix Final. He competed through the pain of a hip injury, but the strain of his jumps and spins – as well as the long plane rides – aggravated the injury further and forced him to withdraw from December's Grand Prix Final and the U.S. Figure Skating Challenge.
