Meissner's accomplishments on the ice have not gone unnoticed by her friends in Maryland.

"At school they always ask me, ‘Are you going to the Olympics?’ It’s always an awkward question for me," she said. "They want a yes or no answer. But I always tell them I still have to qualify, and it’s not as easy as it looks."
