Ward, McLain
- 2004 U.S. Olympic Team member
- Named the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) International High Performance Athlete of the Month for January 2004
- Named the 2003 American Grandprix Association’s Rider of the Year for the second consecutive year and third time overall
- Won the 2002 Grand Prix of Devon and tied for fourth at the 2002 Show Jumping World Cup Final in Leipzig, Germany
- Won the 1998 U.S. Equestrian Team Zone 1 Regional Show Jumping Championship and claimed 11 Grand Prix wins
- Began riding as a young boy due to his father’s persuasion as an accomplished equestrian rider himself.
- At only age 14, he became the youngest rider to win the USET Show Jumping Talent Derby in 1990.
- Ten weeks later, became the youngest rider to win the USET Medal Finals and the first rider to win both titles in the same year. Both wins helped him earn the nickname “The Kid” for his early success
- Was named the 1991 American Grandprix Association Rookie of the Year
- Helps run a horse-dealing business with his father which consumes most of his time.
- Enjoys playing golf when he’s not riding or working with horses.

Equestrian is more than just a sport that McLain has chosen to dedicate himself to. It’s in his genes. Not only was McLain’s father an accomplished rider, he competed in and won the Grand Prix of Devon exactly 20 years to the day prior to McLain’s victory at the same competition.
