Prandi, Kyle
- Holds the American record for the highest recorded score ever on a single dive (104.76 on a back 3½ somersault pike at the 2002 World Cup Trials)
- Took first place in the platform event at the 2002 World Cup Trials
- 2001 NCAA platform gold medalist
- Placed second in the platform event at both the 2001 U.S. National Indoor and Outdoor Championships
- Was paired with both Mark Ruiz and Justin Dumais in international platform synchronized events in 2001, finishing seventh with Ruiz at World Championships and fifth with Dumais at the World University Games
- Prior to becoming a diver Prandi was an ice skater and gymnast. When he first started diving he had to divide his time, ice skating every morning before school and alternating afternoon practices between gymnastics and diving.
- Often would miss his first class from fifth through seventh grade because of morning ice skating practices that ran long.
- In 1991, he made his first Junior Nationals for both gymnasts and diving. The meets fell during the same week, and he chose to go to the Diving Junior Nationals in St. Louis. He’s stuck with diving ever since.
- Attends school at the University of Miami where he will graduate with a degree in psychology in Spring 2004.
- Favorite dive is a back 2½ somersault pike from the 10-meter platform.
- Listens to music and plays cards in between his dives during an event.
“I decided to quit gymnastics and keep diving when I was younger. I don’t even really remember why, but diving was new at the time, fresh, more exciting to me. I never looked back. Now, diving is everything. You feel good about yourself when you’re diving well. It’s a release from the world, an escape from everyday problems. You have to focus on so many little things at once – what your hand is doing, what your foot is doing. It means a lot to me. I can’t say everything, because it’s important to be multi-dimensional. I like to rollerblade, go to the beach, attend school. But I sure miss diving when I’m out.”
