Young, Guard
- 2002 U.S. Championships Bronze Medalist
- 2001 World Championships Team -- Silver Medal
- Is a 2000 graduate of Brigham Young University with a degree in broadcast journalism.
- Older sister, Jessica, is a gymnast at BYU.
- Father, Wayne, was a gymnast on the 1976 Olympic Team and in 1975 was the NCAA All-Around Champion.
- Currently is an assistant gymnastics coach at the University of Oklahoma.
- Hero is 1984 Olympic Gold Medalist Peter Vidmar, who has since become a closer personal mentor of Young's.
- Married on April 30, 1999, to Alisha Tolman, and the couple is expecting their first child in February 2003.
- Has five sisters and one brother, all of whom are or were gymnasts at one time
- Holds on to a signed 1988 Olympic Trials posters given to him by his father when Guard was 12 years old.
- Says a prayer for himself and his teammates as a pre-competition ritual.
- Takes no warm-up turns on the pommel horse before competition; it "helps me prepare."
- Is teased for being a "Good, Christian boy" by teammates. Young is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ - Latter Day Saints.
- Cites his World Championships team medal and NCAA All-American awards as most prized possessions.
Coach Mark Williams gave Young the best advice he has every received when, as a senior in college, Young and the rest of the men's gymnastics team were dropped as a sport from BYU. Forced with the decision to quit gymnastics or keep going with refocused goals, Williams said "Give it a year," which has been Young's motto in hard times ever since.
