FitzRandolph has been one of the premier American speed skaters over the past few years, but the injury bug also has hit him. He suffered a broken kneecap, torn knee and shoulder ligaments and a broken sternum - all in recent years. He has persevered through the injuries to keep his strong hopes for the 2002 Games - and a medal - alive.
