Chris Thorpe
- 2002 Olympics bronze medalist in doubles with teammate Clay Ives
- Silver medalist with then-partner Gordy Sheer at 1998 Olympic Winter Games
- Three-time Olympian (1992, '94, '98)
- Finished ninth in 2000-01 World Cup standings
- Silver medallist at 2001-2002 Luge World Cup finale with partner Clay Ives
- Nicknames are 'Oglethorpe,' from partner Clay Ives in reference to the movie "Slapshot," 'Gorp' from his days in high school cross country and 'Chuh Thuh,' from Tony Benshoof because of the way Thorpe signs his name
- When traveling, enjoys sushi and Shabbu-Shabbu restaurants in Japan
- First job was as janitor in dry cleaning business, while his oddest job has been "racing sleds downhill at breakneck speed for 16 years"
- Favorite 'go-to' outfit when he's dressing to impress is short-sleeve button-down shirt, broken-in jeans, and his flops or his shoes with the flames on them. His second choice? "An Armani suit if I had one."
- When his workouts get tough, likes to think about the "delicious Champion Nutrition protein shake waiting for me at the end"
- Says the toughest Olympian is his partner Clay Ives
- What's in Thorpe's CD player? "It could be any of these: Paul Weller, Beatles 1, Tripping Daisy or The Replacements."
Thorpe is making a major transition at these Olympic Winter Games, as he goes to the Games for the first time without his former partner Gordy Sheer, who retired in May 2000. Thorpe asked long-time acquaintance Clay Ives to be his partner and the two have been working tirelessly ever since for a shot at a medal at the upcoming Games.
