Jim Craig
- Goaltender for gold-medal winning 1980 "Miracle on Ice" U.S. Olympic hockey team
- Inductee into the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame
- Craig was the backbone of the 1980 United States' "Miracle on Ice" Olympic team that won the gold medal in Lake Placid, NY. His 39 saves as goaltender led the U.S. team to a shocking 4-3 upset victory over the heavily favored Soviet Union.
- His stellar play continued as Team USA beat Finland in the next game to capture gold. During the Olympic tournament, Craig allowed only 15 goals en route to an undefeated 6-0-1 record and was astounding, posting a 2.14 goals against average.
- One of the most memorable television shots of the 1980 Olympics was the sight of Craig, wrapped in the American flag, looking into the stands at the Olympic hockey rink and asking, "Where's my father?"
- Craig played briefly in the NHL after the Olympics. However, intense media pressure and repeated injuries kept Craig from finding success in the league. He played in just 27 combinded games with the Atlanta Flames, Boston Bruins, and Minnesota North Stars
- Attended Boston University where he became an All-American goaltender
Craig now lives in his hometown of North Easton, MA, where he grew up. He is a successful businessman and consultant. Craig currently works for Valassis Communications and has earned many awards with the marketing services firm. He will find time though to join other members of the 1980 gold medal squad to play together for the first time since Lake Placid against a group of NHL old-timers in Los Angeles on February 1, the day before the NHL All-Star game. They will also hold a series of sponsored clinics given by the former Olympians across the country prior to the reunion game.
About the all-out effort the 1980 gold medal team gave:
"If anybody in here is surprised we won the gold, let me know. This team put out every game and all I ever tried to do was keep them in it."
