Alana Beard is no stranger to success. At Southwood High School (La.), she led her team to two Louisiana state titles. During her four years at Duke, the team posted a record of 126-14, won four ACC regular season and four ACC Tournament titles and reached the 2002 and 2003 NCAA Tournament Final Fours. In her WNBA rookie season, she helped the Washington Mystics into the first round of the playoffs.

Alana Beard's jersey number 20 is retired by Duke; she is the only Duke woman to have her basketball jersey retired.
