Still feeling the effects from his concussion after the collusion in Game 5 of the 2003 ALDS, Johnny had migraines everyday in the off-season and therefore, he let his hair and beard grow out. He reported to spring training 2004 looking like an actor from "The Passion of Christ". Some even nicknamed him "Captain Caveman". He had a following calling themselves "The Damon Disciples". His look was a popular costume for Halloween. Johnny becomes a free agent after the 2005 season.
