- First learned about luge at the age of 10, when his mother saw a luge recruiting advertisement

Dan trains hard every day, with workouts lasting nearly the entire day. He usually runs or swims three mile in the morning, before hitting the gym to lift weights. After lunch he goes back to the weight room. He does all of this before ever heading to luge practice
Joye on the race-off which ultimately determined that he and partner Preston Griffall would fill the second of two Olympic luge spots: "This race I made some little adjustments to my sled and to my mind. I felt like I needed to put it all in — 100 percent. If there's something I'm holding back I just need to put that out of my mind."
