Johnson has been labeled “the next great American striker” with his amazing performances on the U.S. National team. Scoring six goals in his first four appearances during the World Cup Qualifying and eight goals in eight World Cup matches, he has achieved something no other American player has. "I think he is a player with a lot of potential and, if we utilize him correctly, he's going to be dangerous,” said U.S. men’s soccer coach Bruce Arena to USA Today. “To his credit, we always talk about the guy getting chances, and he's capitalized on the opportunity, and at this point it separates him from a lot of players."
On his soccer dream: “My soccer dream was to score at the Azteca - that would have been a real dream,” Johnson said to FIFAworldcup.com. “But I guess I'll have to wait on that one. But really, my dream has to do with being the best soccer player I can be and the best person I can be. I want to be happy in my life and content in the knowledge that I did my best when I was out there on the field.”
