- She gave birth to her daughter, Destiny, as a junior at the University of North Carolina and returned to the UNC track team a year later

- Her brother ran track for East Carolina University and her cousin, Kenny Cox, ran for UNC
- In high school she was a Big Sister mentor for special needs students

Of being a single mom, athlete and full-time student, Cox says, “You know, we all in life have paths that we have to follow, I just took a detour, a situation like this can either make or break you.”
