- Two-time Olympian (2000, 2004)
- 2004 Olympic gold medalist in the 400m medley relay (prelims), bronze medalist in the 400m freestyle relay
- 2000 Olympic gold medalist in the 400m medley relay (prelims), silver medalist in 400m freestyle relay (setting an American record), finished fifth in the 100m freestyle and sixth in the 100m backstroke
- Became only the third swimmer to earn seven medals at an major international competition at the 2000 Short Course World Championships
- Claimed gold in the 400m freestyle relay at the 2005 World Championships
- Won a gold medal in the 400m freestyle relay at the 2004 Short Course World Championships (set an American record)
- Took gold in the 400m medley relay (prelims), silver in the 400m freestyle relay at the 2003 World Championships
- Won the 100m freestyle and was third in the 50m freestyle in the 2003 Mutual of Omaha 'Duel in the Pool'
- Has eight U.S. National titles in four different events
- Became the second man in history to qualify for World Championships in four individual events (1998)
- Regularly goes to the Cayman Islands to train and do supportive work with local swimmers
- Enjoys fishing, being outdoors and cheering for the Green Bay Packers
