- 2004 U.S. Olympic team member
- 2003 USEF “Equestrian of the Year”
- 2003 Pan American Games team gold and individual silver medallist
- Competition Horse: Royal Kaliber (Dutch Warmblood stallion; owned by Chris Kappler & Kathleen Kamine)
- Considered a discretionary selection to the 2004 U.S. Olympic Show Jumping Team based on outstanding performances in 2003 and 2004, and didn’t have to compete at U.S. Olympic Show Jumping Trials
- First ever to sweep back-to-back the $200,000 Budweiser American Invitational and the AGA Show Jumping Championships on consecutive weekends in 2003
- Represented the U.S. on many occasions and has over 30 career grand prix wins in North America and Europe
- Competed in his first World Cup Final in 1989, placing seventh
- Presented with the 1988 Lionel Guerrand-Hermes Trophy, awarded to a rider exemplifying outstanding sportsmanship and horsemanship
- Began his grand prix career in 1984 at age 17, placing fifth in his first major show jumping event -- Kappler admits he was lucky in that he got an excellent horse, Concorde, right away
- Started riding at age eight when his mother Kay began taking lessons herself
Grew up 40 miles west of Chicago and is a big fan of the Chicago Bulls basketball team -- says if he wasn't showing jumpers, he would be watching basketball. But he now lives with wife Jenny in Pittstown, NJ where they own and run a training facility.
