Kreiner says she “kind of fell into” the javelin when her asthma made it difficult to practice with the Kent State women’s basketball team. “It was weird just sitting around with nothing to do,” Kreiner notes. The school’s track & field coach suggested she try javelin – an event she’d never attempted – and by the end of her freshman season she’d finished fourth at the U.S. Junior Track and Field Championships.[Note: “It was weird just sitting…” quote above from Daily Kent Stater, May 2, 1997]
“Looking ahead, I’m not going to change anything in my training. I’m capable of throwing well over 200 feet and I’m sticking to the plan.”
