- Despite being the 2004 World Indoor silver medalist, has never before been to the Olympics or a World Outdoor Championship.

- Won the shot put in the 1999 Puerto Rico Championships with a stadium record mark.

- The 2004 Olympic shot put event will be held in the original Stadium of Ancient Olympia; Hoffa and other shot putters will bring Olympic competition back to the venue for the first time in over 1,000 years.
- Has already announced intention of competing again in 2008 Olympics.
Hoffa is the youngest of the three U.S. shot putters headed to Athens. In one 2003 competition, he even wore a mask to play up his role as the “unknown shot putter” in comparison to the country’s established stars. Hoffa finds the challenge to be a motivator, explaining, “I’m always going to be the unknown shot putter in my heart. It’s taken a while to establish myself as one of the better shot putters. Ever since Adam [Nelson, winner of the 2004 Olympic Trials] came to Georgia, that’s helped me to aspire to the highest level.”
“I have another big throw waiting to get out of me.”-- The Augusta Chronicle, July 8, 2004
