Komisarz always dreamed of making the Olympics, but she originally thought it would be as a gymnast. Those dreams were smashed by a tumbling accident at age 15 that broke two vertebrae, however. Her doctor recommended she take up swimming, and even though she had never liked pools, she obliged. Within a few years she had already burst onto the national scene. Her father calls her back injury a blessing in disguise.
