Did You Know?
  • Mijalis is of Greek heritage and is especially excited about competing at Athens Olympics
  • At the 2003 National Championships, Mijalis won first place in K-4 1000m, second place in K-4 500m and K-2 200m and third place in K-2 500m and K-1 500m
  • Has identical twin sister named Jeanne, who also kayaks, but broke three ribs in 2003 and took a break from the sport
  • Teamed up with her twin sister to finish third in K-2 500m at the 2001 World Cup in Paris and ninth in K-4 500m at the 2002 World Cup in Milan
  • Trains at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. under coach Jerzy Dziadkowiec
  • Graduated from the Univ. of San Diego in 2003 with a degree in business administration and a minor in Spanish (sister Jeanne completed same degrees)
  • The twins began kayaking at age 15 after rowing on the same lagoon as Olympian Angel Perez, who taught them how to kayak as their first coach
  • Competed in cross-country, volleyball and swimming at Ransom Everglades H.S. in Miami, Fla. (class of 1999)

  • Enjoys rollerblading, volleyball, cross country, swimming, and rowing
