Johnson, Carrie
- 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials champion (K-1 500m and K-4 500m)
- 2003 U.S. National Champion (K-4 200m)
- Surprised everyone in defeating two former Olympians to gain the K-1 spot on the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team; her previous best K-1 finish was 13th
- Missed the 2003 World Championships because of battles with pneumonia, elbow surgery, and Crohn's disease, which attacks the digestive system
- The San Diego native trains at the Olympic Training Center in nearby Chula Vista, Calif. under coach Jerzy Dziadkowiec
- Started kayaking through the Junior Lifeguard Program and the San Diego Canoe and Kayak Team
- Attends the University of Calif. at San Diego and plans to graduate in 2007 with a degree in biochemistry and chemistry
- Graduated from La Jolla H.S. (La Jolla, Calif.) in 2002
- Enjoys reading, painting and scrapbooking
- Competed in gymnastics as a youth, but quit at age 13 after breaking her forearm in two places
- Also participated in swimming, diving, soccer, dancing and gymnastics as a youth
- Favorite music group: Nsync and Faith Hill
- Favorite food: Her dad's pizza
In 2003, a week after elbow surgery to remove bone chips, Johnson was in the weight room doing one-arm pushups on a slant board and assisted one-arm pull-ups.
