Scott, Danielle
- Two-time Olympian (1996 & 2000)
- Selected to USA Volleyball’s 1978-2002 75th Anniversary All-Era Team
- 2002 World Championships silver medal team member
- National team member since ‘91
- Considered by many to be one of the best blockers in the world as she captured “Best Blocker” honors at the 2002 World Championships (led all players with 38 stuff blocks in 41 sets).
- Recently returned to the U.S. National Team, giving up a cushy, high-paying job playing professionally in Brazil, where her ferocious hitting and imposing 6-foot-2 frame have made her known as the Shaquille O'Neal of volleyball.
- Earned a 2001 tryout with the Portland Fire of the WNBA pro basketball league.
- Long history of playing for U.S. national teams, besides in the Olympics -- played for the USA at the ‘95 Pan American Games, ‘94 World Championships, ‘93 World University Games, ‘91 Pan American Games team and ‘91 World University Games to name a few.
- Three-time NCAA All-American that led Long Beach State to the ‘93 NCAA crown, earning herself AVCA Player of the Year honors.
- Also played basketball at LBSU, averaging 10.9 points per game and 6.7 rebounds over her three-year career as a forward.
- Also competed on LBSU track team in sprints and jumping events.
- Was an All-State performer in basketball and volleyball at Woodlawn H.S. in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
- Considers her parents her personal heroes “because they are big influence in my life, growing up teaching morals and things like that, so I looked those as being my heroes. Of course I like Michael Jordan I think he is awesome.”
- Enjoys sketching in her free time.
Danielle is the consummate athlete. As a youngster she played all the sports, especially basketball, track and field, and softball. In high school, she starred in basketball and volleyball, taking All-State honors. Then in college, she became the first Big West athlete to become all-conference in two sports in the same year (basketball, volleyball). As a pro, she nearly made the WNBA, but now focuses on volleyball exclusively.
On what skills are required to be a good blocker: “A good tip to be a good blocker is to read, I think. To see the whole picture, see the pass, see the volleyball into the setter, and see the attacker in the movement.”
