Picabo Street
- Three-time U.S. Olympian in alpine skiing (1994, 1998, 2002)
- Gold medalist in super G at 1998 Olympic Winter Games; earned a silver medal in downhill in 1994
- Two-time World Cup downhill champion (1995, '96)
- Her parents wanted to let her name herself, so she was named 'Little Girl' for the first two years of her life
- Named after Idaho town of - what else - Picabo. As an infant, loved to play peek-a-boo. In Native American language, Picabo means 'Shining Waters.'
- Started organized racing at age of 7 because 'I always wanted to race the boys.'
- Had a horrific crash shortly after the 1998 Olympic Winter Games - on Friday the 13th - tearing ligaments in her knee and breaking her left femur
- Missed 33 months of action because of her injuries from the 1998 crash
- Biography recently released, entitled Picabo: Nothing to Hide, which offers an insight into Picabo and the world of big-time ski racing
- Spent her early years growing up in small village of Triumph, Idaho (population: 30)
- Names her skis, mainly after people who are strong and mean a lot to her - among them, she has her Earnies (after Dale Earnhardt) and Arnolds (Arnold Schwartzenegger)
- Also carries a cross and a pin with her as good luck charms
- Her ideal Olympic athlete is Marion Jones
Street is still recovering from her post-Olympic leg injuries, which sidelined her for over two years. While she is not totally back to her original strength, she intends on capping her career on a high note at the 2002 Games while attempting to defend her 1998 Olympic gold medal in the super G. She has been rigorously rehabbing in order to do just that in Salt Lake.
