Suter, Gary
- Member of the 2002 U.S. Olympic silver medal team; played for the 1998 squad that finished fifth
- Earned a gold medal for Team USA at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey
- Winner of the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL's top rookie in 1985-86
- Member of the 1989 Stanley Cup Champion Calgary Flames
- Recently reached several career milestones: 1,000th NHL game (Oct. 25, 2000); 600th NHL assist (Jan. 6, 2001); 800th NHL point (Jan. 27, 2001)
- Selected to NHL All-Star Game five times (1996, 1991, 1989, 1988, 1986)
- Played at the University of Wisconsin in his hometown of Madison, where Suter conducts a summer hockey school with his older brother Bob, a 1980 Olympian
- Nominated twice for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy as the NHL player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey
- While fishing, Suter has caught a 55-pound king salmon in Alaska and a 44-inch muskee in Wisconsin. The muskee is proudly displayed over his fireplace at home
- When not fishing, Gary enjoys inner tubing on the lake with his two sons in Wisconsin
- Gary's favorite pre-game meals are steak and potatoes and lasagna
His older brother, Bob, played on the 1980 U.S. hockey team that shocked the world by winning the gold medal in Lake Placid. "He's always yapping about how he has a gold medal. I've had a good career, won a Stanley Cup, played in a few All-Star Games. But I'd love to shut him up about the gold medal," Gary said about his brother's boasting.
About carrying the Olympic Torch in January:
"It's a great honor. The torch is the symbol of the Olympics. The Olympics are a dream for any kind in America to play in them. It doesn't really matter what sport."
