Sarah Hughes
- 2002 Olympic gold medalist
- Four-time U.S. Nationals medalist, silver in 2001, '03; bronze in '00, '02
- Two-time ISU Grand Prix Finals bronze medalist (2001-02)
- 2001 World Championships bronze medalist
- Named 2002 Sullivan Award Winner, USOC SportsWoman of the Year
- Forced to withdraw from the 2003 ISU Grand Prix because of a leg injury, however, returned to competition finishing second at the International Figure Skating Challenge
- Won her first major title at the 2001 Skate Canada where she defeated Michelle Kwan and Irina Slutskaya for the first time
- Began skating at age 3 because her two older brothers and sister skated; she is the fourth of six children
- Has worn the same pajamas the night before a competition for four years
- Has a Peggy Fleming T-shirt she wears for good luck
- Hughes appeared in her first television special – "Sarah Hughes: A Life in Balance" – on NBC, Dec. 22, 2002
- Attends Yale University, but took a year off to tour with “Stars on Ice”

- Despite her demanding skating schedule up to the 2002 Olympics, she was an honor student at Great Neck North High School in Long Island

A meeting at the White House with President Bush, Hughes discussed the plight of Afghan women and children. In a broadcast worldwide on Voice of America, she stressed her view that we should make more immunizations, textbooks and school supplies available to rebuild society for these victims of Taliban oppression.
