- The 2000 Olympic Games was the first to allow women to compete in the sport of weightlifting. Haworth won her Olympic bronze at just 17 years old.

Haworth first became interested in lifting at the age of 12 when she was training for softball. She was playing on the all-girls’ city team as well as playing on a co-ed basketball team. However, she noticed Olympic-caliber weightlifters training in the gym and persuaded her parents to let her try it. She was soon training five days a week after school. Her rigid training schedule has remained, but she also keeps herself in top shape. She currently can run the 40-yard dash in 5.5 seconds, do the splits and jump 30-inches for her vertical leap.
