Raney, Catherine
- Three-time U.S. Olympian (1998, 2002, 2006)
- Overall champion at 1999 U.S. Allround Championships
- Finished 2nd overall at 1998 World Junior Speed Skating Championships (won 1,500 and 3,000-meter events)
- Finished 2000-01 World Cup standings ranked 44th in 1,500-meter and 27th in 3,000/5,000-meter.
- Appeared in Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd" feature in the April 13, 1998 edition.
- Raney started out as a figure skater, which lasted until the age of 13 when she suffered a bad knee injury and had to quit jumping. She then joined the speed skating team that practiced at her club facility in Milwaukee.
- Her older sister, Jennifer, was also a figure skater. While her twin brother, Richard, has been active in many sports: track, cross-country, and basketball.
- Raney was inspired by Olympian Chris Sheels to take up cycling on the side.
- She owns two dogs - a black lab named Lancelot and a cocker spaniel named Huckleberry.
As a youth she competed at the West Allis Speed Skating Club in Milwaukee. The club claims more than 17 Olympic champions, more than 50 World Team members and more than 95 national champions as alumni, including Dan Jansen.
On her 22nd place finish at her first Olympics:
"I wish I could have held it together a little better in the last three laps. But this was a great Olympic experience. My goal was to have a good race and a new personal, and that's what I've done."
