Getting Started in Taekwondo

Getting Started in Taekwondo To get started, find a U.S. Taekwondo Union school in your area or contact your USTU state union for information on programs.
Adult black belts can attend the State Championships. If you place in the top eight at States in the adult black belt sparring division, you then qualify to go to the National Taekwondo Championships. Then, if you place in the top four, you are invited to participate in Team Trials. Gold medalists from this event are on the National Team.
Joining U.S. Taekwondo A Competitor membership is required to participate in USTU sanctioned events and is also required for all coaches and referees. Competitor membership offers you secondary insurance on injuries during sanctioned tournaments and supervised practices. You can apply for membership at the USTU website.

Becoming a U.S. Olympian
Qualifications vary from sport to sport. Please check with U.S. Taekwondo for specific information.
