Reo Wilde wins archery World Cup Final

YUCATAN, Mexico – The 2006 FITA Archery World Cup Final was held October 22 in Yucatan, Mexico with Reo Wilde (Pocatello, Idaho) of the U.S. claiming the gold medal and finishing the World Cup in first place overall. Jahna Davis (Helena, Mont.) won a bronze medal for the U.S.
The World Cup final featured the top four individuals in each category of the 2006 Meteksan Archery World Cup (recurve men and women, compound men and women). Wilde, Dave Cousins (Standish, Maine), Jamie Van Natta (Toledo, Ohio) and Davis all qualified to compete for the U.S. in the compound division.
Reo Wilde (Pocatello, Idaho), who won the gold medal at the first leg of the 2006 World Cup in Croatia, defeated El Salvador’s Jorge Jimenez 118-115 in the semifinals, and then advanced to the finals where he faced Peter Elzinga (Netherlands). Wilde took the match after shooting a perfect score of 120 to Elzinga’s 115, to claim the gold medal and secure his number one ranking overall in the Men’s Compound category.
Cousins, who was the gold medalist at the fourth stage of the 2006 World Cup in Shanghai, faced Jimenez for the bronze, but lost the match 118-113. Cousins finished in third place overall in the 2006 World Cup.
Davis faced her U.S. teammate Van Natta, who is the reigning silver medalist in Croatia and El Salvador (the first and second legs of the World Cup), in a close bronze medal match. Davis claimed the bronze after defeating Van Natta 110-109. Van Natta finished the World Cup in third place overall in the female compound bow category, while Davis finished in fourth.
The U.S. finished the 2006 World Cup in first place overall with a total of 305 points. Italy finished in second with 240 and Korea took third with 237 points.
