By Meredith Gusa // usolympicteam.com // September 30, 2004
Getting Started in Ski / Snowboard The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association's competition clubs are the foundation of competitive programs in all ski and snowboard sports, and offer newcomers a helpful and safe place to learn basic skills. These clubs, available at ski resorts of all sizes across the country, offer programs from youth (6 and up) to collegiate and elite levels with coaching and logistical support for all levels.
For programs specific to the different ski and snowboard sports, go to the USSA’s member Web site and click on the sport that interests you: Alpine, Cross Country, Jumping/Nordic, Freestyle or Snowboarding. Their “Program Info” pages give contacts and information for skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels. You can also find information for disabled and Masters ski programs. Also check out the divisional programs for your sport and region. Many of the divisions have Web sites with detailed information about area youth leagues, camps and events.

USSA membership in your sport is generally required to compete in sanctioned events. You can download membership applications for all sports and age divisions on the USSA Web site.
