Tom Dolan: What have you been doing since retirement?
Cael Sanderson: Are you still drawing?
Lenny Krayzelburg: Any change in your training approach?

For Tom Dolan
What has you been doing since retirement? Are you still planning on going to business school?

Irina Zavina
Boston, Mass.

Irina,
Thanks for your question. A very timely question too, as my life is very different now that I am not working out seven hours a day. I must be honest and say that I am loving retirement and although I do miss my friends and the competitiveness of swimming I do not by any means miss the long hours and multiple trips to the doctor. I think because of my asthma and overall health problems throughout my career and especially the last year, I can appreciate life outside of swimming more than anyone. I have been traveling a lot the last couple of months along with continuing my motivational speaking. I have been talking to kids who have asthma as well as adults who suffer from acid reflux. It is very rewarding for me to be able to give back in a positive manner from a disease that has a very negative impact. It has also been nice to catch up with old friends that I lost touch with as a result of my traveling and training.

I tossed around the idea of starting my own company for a while but have decided that I am going to work for a few years in the business world so that I can get some real world experience. To answer your business school question Irina, I will most likely end up back in school after working for a while. I feel like I need work some experience as well as learning more about business as a whole before I get involved in anything else.

I am starting to look for jobs in both financial services and a Fortune 500 company. I am looking for a rotational training program that allows me to learn on a broader scale, for the first couple of years, rather than confining myself to one area of business. I think this will allow me to learn more about the business as a whole and let me decide what aspect I enjoy the most.

I hope I answered your questions Irina. I may be asking you some questions soon as you will be the business school grad. Thanks for your interest. Take care.

Tom Dolan

For Cael Sanderson
Congratulations on all your accomplishments and our wish is for you to bring home a gold in 2004. My oldest son and I watched you in Albany and this is when I found out how big of a fan he is. My question is; are you still drawing?

Ken Iliff
Grand Blanc, Mich.

Ken,
Lately, I have been doing more drawings. During my senior year of college and last year I got away from it because I was doing a lot of appearances, but it really helps me relax and get away from wrestling for a while. Drawing and painting are things I do for fun. I am still in the process of putting a room in my house where I can do all of my art. Thanks for the question.

Cael

For Lenny Krayzelburg
Did you change your training approach in the face of the tightening competition? What are your plans post-2004 Olympics?

Irina Zavina
Boston, Mass.

Irina,
My training approach has not changed much since last Games. The only thing I do different now is concentrating more on speed work, rather than on distance training. Yes, the competition has gotten a lot tougher, but I truly believe I still have a great shot on contending for a gold medal next year in Athens....

As for my plans after the Olympics, I really want to get into sports broadcasting, and also devote a lot of time to my newly formed non-profit organization for kids.

Lenny
