Ryan Reser tip on how to execute a successful judo leg trip

Judo is more than just a sport. Rather, it is an art, a discipline, a form of self-defense or combat and a way of life for many people. Judo enhances one's concentration and self- confidence, in addition to increasing power, flexibility and coordination. Ryan Reser, 22, has been mastering the art of judo for quite some time. Reser is a two-time U.S. National Champion and was the only U.S. gold medal winner at the Pacific Rim Championships in 2001. Reser, an Athens hopeful, gave usolympicteam.com a step-by-step guide on how to execute a successful leg trip.

How to execute a successful judo leg trip

Tip #1 - Face off
You need to start off by facing your opponent with your dominant foot forward. (If you are left handed you stand with your left foot forward) This will help maintain good balance.

Tip #2 - Grab right arm
With your one foot slightly ahead of the other you now want to grab your opponent's right arm at the wrist with your left hand. (Your left arm crossing over your body)

Tip #3 - Footwork
You now step with your left foot to the left of, or past, your opponent's feet. (Your left leg crossing over, or across, your body)

Tip #4 - Match up hips
With your right leg you hook the back of your opponents right leg at the knee; your hip should match up with your opponents hip. At the same time, you throw your right hand across your opponents neck so that it connects with their left ear; this is similar to a "clothesline."

Tip #5 - The big finish
To finish the move off, with your right leg hooked behind their right knee, you sweep your leg back and up towards the ceiling to throw them onto the floor, while using your right arm, which is across their neck, to push their head towards the floor.
