USA Field Hockey Women Open Chile Tournament with 5-0 Win

SANTIAGO, Chile - Five different players scored goals as the USA Field Hockey Women's National Team opened a Pan Am preview tournament in impressive style with a 5-0 win over host Chile.
Kelly Doton (Greenfield, Mass.) and Carrie Lingo (Rehoboth Beach, Del.) scored first half goals to give the USA a 2-0 lead at halftime before Tiffany Snow (Escondido, Calif.), Angie Loy (Loysville, Pa.) and Keli Smith (Selinsgrove, Pa.) added field goals in the second half to rout the tournament hosts.
WorldHockey All-Star goalkeeper Amy Tran (Grantville, Pa.) recorded the shutout in goal for the USA.
The USA continues tournament play on Thursday against long-time rival and tournament favorite Argentina. Argentina defeated Canada, 6-0 in the tournament's first match.
The tournament serves as a Pan Am warm-up for the four teams who will meet again July 15-29 at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro. The winner of the Pan Am Games earns the continent's automatic berth in the 2008 Olympic Games.
Following the Chile tournament, head coach Lee Bodimeade USA will send a split squad to the Champions Challenge, June 9-17 in Baku, Azerbaijan with China, England, Korea, New Zealand and host Azerbaijan. The USA women will then return home to compete in the U.S. National Championship, June 17-24 where the 2007-08 National Team and 2007 Pan American Games team will be announced.
