Patricia Machemer, Alva Serrette Named to USA Field Hockey Nominating Committee

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The USA Field Hockey Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Michigan State Univ. assistant professor Patricia Machemer, Ph.D. and financial executive Alva Serrette to the associations Nominating Committee.
Machemer and Serrette join the five-member, independent committee charged with identifying and evaluating prospective candidates for service on the Board of Directors, recommend individuals for service on committees and task forces and developing and recommending evaluation processes for the Board and its committees.
An assistant professor in the Landscape Architecture Program at Michigan State, Machemer has served the sport for more than 25 years as a player, coach and official. She served as a venue volunteer at the 1996 Olympic Games and has worked as a volunteer coach at the NCAA I level and with USA Field Hockey's Futures Program. She currently umpires games at the high school and middle school level.
A managing partner of Just for TAXES, LP in Stone Mountain, Georgia, Serrette is a former member of the USA National team and a member of the U.S. men's 1979 Pan American Games team. He served as the Competition Manager for field hockey for the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games and has served USA Field Hockey's Board of Directors as Director of Men's Elite Teams. He also served on the Board of the U.S. Olympic Committee from 1989-92.
In addition to Machemer and Serrette, USA Field Hockey's Nominating Committee includes Ann Arbor, Mich. attorney Bruce Elliott, Pennsbury High School (Pa.) Field Hockey Coach and former U.S. National Team member Tracey Larson and Amnesty International Director of Human Rights Education Program and former U.S. National Team member Karen Robinson.
USA Field Hockey is the National Governing Body for the sport of field hockey in the United States and is responsible for the promotion and development of the sport throughout the country. USA Field Hockey trains and prepares teams to participate in international competitions such as the Olympic Games, Pan American Games and International Hockey Federation World Cup.
