Tran named top World Cup goalkeeper

Hockey's Amy Tran Named Goalkeeper of the Tournament at World Cup
Madrid - USA Field Hockey goalkeeper Amy Tran was named the Goalkeeper of the Tournament at the World Cup after helping the USA to its best world finish since 1994. Voted the tournament's top keeper by the teams at the World Cup, Tran helped the USA to a sixth place finish.
Tran recorded three shutouts at the tournament including a 1-0 win over 2004 Olympic gold medalist Germany. She also earned victories over Korea (1-0) and South Africa (3-1).
The Netherlands won the World Cup title followed by Australia and Argentina.
The award was the third such honor for Tran and her third consecutive award at International Hockey Federation world events. She also also received Goalkeeper of the Tournament honors at the 2005 Rabobank Champions Challenge in Virginia Beach and the 2006 World Cup Qualifier in Rome.
The USA placed sixth at the World Cup for its best showing at the event since a third place finish in 1994 and marked the country's third top-six finish since the team made its World Cup debut in 1983. The USA's run through the tournament included a win over Olympic gold medalist Germany, victories over No. 7 Korea and South Africa. The team lost its first two games of the tournament to bronze medalist Argentina and silver medalist Australia before going 3-1-1 to conclude the tournament.
