One of the most coveted Grand Prixs in the world, the Grand Prix of Aachen was last won by an American in 1991 (Anne Kursinski and Starman). Madden, one of only three riders to go through to the jump-off posted the only clear to win convincingly over French rider Roger Yves-Bost and Ideal de la Loge who had four faults and German rider Christian Ahlman and Coster who ended with eight. Fellow Americans, Laura Kraut and Anthem were seventh.

Madden, 43, and Abigail Wexner’s Authentic, a 12-year-old KWPN gelding, bested a field of 40 starters. Going last, Madden never had to truly utilize Authentic’s renowned turn of foot as all that was necessary to secure the victory was a clean round.

Madden was also the leading rider at the show, adding a third in the Prize of Aachen Münchener with Judgment and put in a dynamite performance in the Nations Cup (part of the Samsung Super League) with Authentic, picking up four faults for a toe in the water jump in the second round. She also picked up a good result with Select in the Prize of Kreises Aachen in memory of Landrat Hermann-Josef Pütz.

Madden will stay in Europe with her string and compete at horse shows in Geesteren, Holland, Hickstead in England and Dublin, Ireland.
