Five U.S. divers to compete in FINA Diving World Series
By Jennifer Lowery // United States Diving // August 30, 2007
The world’s best divers – including five from the United States – will gather on three continents over the next three weeks for the prestigious FINA Diving World Series.
The World Series kicks off September 1-2 in Sheffield, England. Subsequent contests will be held September 7-8 in Mexico City, Mexico and September 15-16 in Nanjing, China.
The top finishers at the 2007 FINA World Championships, held in March, were given the opportunity to attend this new event. Divers who finished in the top eight on an individual Olympic event and synchronized teams that placed in the top six at Worlds were invited to participate in the World Series.
David Boudia (Noblesville, Ind.) and Thomas Finchum (Indianapolis, Ind.), who won a bronze medal together at the World Championships, will dive in the men’s 10-meter synchronized event at the World Series. The two have medaled in their last nine international competitions together, most recently winning gold at the Pan Am Games.
Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif.) and Mitch Richeson (Greenwood, Ind.) will compete in the men’s synchronized 3-meter contest. They finished fourth at the World Championships but were just 0.30 points away from the bronze medal. Dumais and Richeson won gold at the Pan Am Games.
Dumais also will dive individually on 3-meter. He placed seventh on the event at Worlds but later medaled in three Grand Prix meets as well as the Pan Am Games.
Nancilea Foster (Spring, Texas) will compete in the women’s 3-meter contest. She placed sixth at the World Championships.
